Lead by self-taught Pastry Chef Krystal Mack, BLK//SUGAR (pronounced “Black Sugar”) started in 2016 as a small-batch Microbakery and Tea Counter located inside of the R.House food hall in the Remington neighborhood of Baltimore. The BLK//SUGAR brick and mortar offered a variety of rotating teas, tinctures, pies, pastries, desserts and other baked goods 7 days a week. The menu offerings drew inspiration from people and places that have inspired Krystal while also including simple treats that she has found to be as decadent as they are nurturing.

The name pays homage to the non-traditional path of her culinary journey as well as her pride in Black American culture and how that has influenced her as a female pastry chef and bakery owner.
